California - America's 2nd Amendment Front Line in 2016

California: No Right To Bear Arms?
One of the biggest mistakes 2nd Amendment supporters can possibility make is to ignore what is happening in California.  In spite of draconian gun laws, California is still the largest gun owning state in the nation.  It is also a source of millions upon millions of dollars in contributions to gun rights organizations.  However, the most significant thing about California is its' use as a testing ground for new gun laws.  Assault Weapons bans, "safety certification" of handguns, and many other measures have started in California.  Currently, California has leveraged the safety certification into a virtual ban of all semi-auto handguns.  Do you want that action to expand?  California gun rights groups are at the forefront of fighting bad gun laws on constitutional grounds - including establishing a constitutional right to carry.  If you support the 2nd Amendment, you must pay attention to California.

2016 WILL BE THE MOST CRITICAL YEAR EVER FOR GUN RIGHTS IN CALIFORNIA, AND POTENTIALLY, THE NATION.

San Francisco Mayor and gubernatorial hopeful Gavin Newsom will be qualifying the worst gun initiative in the history of the United States, assisted by California AG Kamila Harris who has written a high deceptive official description of it.  It's primary focus is not on guns, but on ammunition.  Here's what it will do:

1) Anyone who wants to buy so much as a single round of ammunition will have to apply for a purchase permit at a cost of $50.00.  PURPOSE: Discourage "causal purchasing", drive up cost of ammo.

2) Any business wishing to sell ammunition must be licensed by the state, sell only to people with permits, and keep detailed records of every round purchased.  PURPOSE: Drive up the cost of ammo, drive many ammunition outlets out of the business, drive up ammo prices and decrease availability.

3) Ban mail order and internet purchases of ammunition.  PURPOSE: Drive up the cost of ammo.

4) Bans personal importation of ammunition.  PURPOSE: Prevent gun owners from crossing into other states to buy reasonably priced ammunition.

5) Establishes a total ban on sharing of ammunition, anywhere, any time.  PURPOSE: Entrap shooters by criminalizing the sharing of ammo, even at firing ranges.  Makes it IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE A GUEST TO THE RANGE and introduce them to the shooting sports (unless they first get a permit and bring their own ammo).

The bottom line is that the purpose of this initiative is the complete, or nearly complete, destruction of the shooting sports in California.  It will make ammunition so expensive and hard to obtain, that many people will have to give up shooting and no new shooters will be created.

The supporters claim that these measures will stop crime - but they know that this is not true.  All ammunition purchases were tracked NATIONWIDE from 1969-1986.  This law was repealed in 1986 after the ATF director testified before Congress that not one crime had been prevented or solved by it and that it was wasting ATF resources.  Furthermore, criminals and mass shooters need only cross the nearby border into OR, NV or AZ to buy all the ammo they want.  Additionally, a lively black market will quickly be established to provide criminals easy access to ammo.  Criminals and mass shooters do not care about following laws - and this one will be easily circumvented.

If it passes in the 2016 election, it cannot be repealed by lawmakers (not that they would want to).  Our only hope after that is legal action - and that is not cheap.

Additionally this law would:

1) Remove the exemption for standard capacity magazines (above 10 rounds) owned prior to the ban.  They would have to be sold out of state, removed from the state or surrendered without compensation.

2) Criminalize the failure to report a lost or stolen gun, in some cases even when the owner was not aware of the theft.

Of course they have included a few good provisions, such as increased reporting to the federal NICS system - but they are simply window dressing.  The real intent is clear.

Constitutional Right To Carry

Why All American Gun Owners Should Fight This

Please note that I no longer live in California.  This law would not affect me - that is unless it passes constitutional review and is passed federally.  This is why all American gun owners must work to defeat this initiative at the polls and failing that, in federal courts.  If this passes and is upheld, then it will become a priority for anti-gun rights groups nationwide.  We must stop that at all costs.

I am therefore going to support the primary gun rights group in California the CALGUNS Foundation with as much money as I can afford.  IMHO they are best positioned to fight this threat.  PLEASE CONSIDER DOING THE SAME!
