In spite of continued efforts to suggest that the 2nd Amendment is outdated and not needed today a majority of both Democrats and people who do not own firearms still see the 2nd Amendment as important and relevant. Further more, Republicans and Independents oppose more gun control laws - while only Democrats support them.

Looking at the same three groups, a majority of all but Democrats believe that more guns in the hands of law abiding people results in less crime. Of course, the fact is that this is exactly what has happened in the last 25 years - 180 Million new guns entered private hands and the firearms crime and homicide rates dropped by about 50%.
Finally, in the same article, they quote polling information from Gallup concerning the NRA - the pro-2nd Amendment organization Pres. Obama has been attacking for two years. The question was "Do you support the NRA?" Here are the percentage of people who answered "Yes" in 2000, 2012, and 2014:
