Gun owners are often portrayed as a vocal minority by the media, in opposition to "common sense" infringements.  It turns out that the truth is very different.  Gun owners are extremely common.

39% of American households report owning at least one gun.  Gallup's numbers are slightly higher - 42% of respondents indicating they had a gun in their home.   The actual number is certainly higher, as many people will lie when speaking to a stranger who called them on the phone.

According to the ASPCA, 35% of American households own a cat and 44% of American households own a dog.

Imagine the reaction if politicians began attacking the right to own pets.  Imagine if the reaction if they said something like, "We believe in the right to own a dog - but no one needs a 40-50 lb dog.  Pit Bulls, Dobermanns and Shepherds are war dogs used by are military.  We need common sense laws to ban assault dogs!"  Now imagine that the politicians began to add more and more breeds to the list of assault dogs - until every dog weighing more than 10 lbs was on the list.  What do you think the reaction would be?

Now imagine that these same politicians began to say, "No one needs a dog or a cat.  If they want a pet, they can keep a fish."  What do you think the reaction would be?

Do you think that pet owners would turn out in droves to vote against these politicians?  We will find out in November..........
